Welcome Message

Globally, there are many colleges and universities springing up daily due to the growing demand for tertiary education. The demand has been propelled by public knowledge that people who graduate with university degrees make an average of more than twice the incomes of those who have not. People with tertiary education are also more likely to have a reliable source of income than their counterparts in various industries. Additionally, college education increases civic engagement, volunteerism, healthy lifestyle, innovation, and passion for success needed to drive change.  

The Madina Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) is a technology and innovation-oriented Liberal Arts institution founded on Islamic values of honesty, sincerity, hard work, and integrity. It was founded and commissioned by Madina Foundation of Science & Technology (MFST) to provide access to high-quality education through teaching, research, and mentorship to empower graduates to provide solutions to everyday problems in communities. The institute holds a great promise for current and future generations, who aspire to explore the world around them. Its schools of engineering, business and technology provide a stimulating environment for academic and professional inquiries into complex issues and finding effective solutions to problems. The institute is envisaged by the founders to serve as a vehicle through which complex research is initiated and undertaken to inspire change.  

MIST trains students to receive respectable and prestigious degrees awarded by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology and University for Development Studies, which are recognized around the world by employers, who yearn to recruit graduates with integrative theoretic and practical knowledge as well as willingness to add value to existing processes and systems.     

At the institute, you will find the opportunity to receive an excellent education in engineering, business, and liberal arts. Our faculty members, who are academically and professionally qualified, will provide you with the support to think critically, act ethically, pursue truth, and contribute to the development of society. Our facilities are modern and sophisticated, necessitating active learning, small class size, intensive interaction between students and faculty members. Our first-class Library is equipped with all the necessary academic and professional materials to provide resources and support for students throughout their time at the institute. We envisage a vibrant campus atmosphere with a sizeable number of students living on campus comfortably. In this regard, we have provided large size apartment complexes to meet the accommodation needs of students. Our Students Affairs office will organize out of class activities to allow recreation and personal development of students.

President, Madina Institute of Science and Technology

Prof. Abdulai Salifu Asuro

Prof. Abdulai Salifu Asuro comes from a humble background. He rose from being the son of parents who never had any formal education to become a teacher, lecturer, and administrator.

His pre-university education was all in Tamale, before he went to Winneba to get a Teacher’s Diploma in English. Then he proceeded to the University of Ghana, Legon for a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Drama & Theatre Studies and Linguistics (1991 and 1994); and a Master of Philosophy degree in Linguistics (1997 to 2000). In August 2004 Prof. Salifu Asuro left for the United States of America where he studied at Indiana University, Bloomington and returned in 2008 with a PhD in Folklore, with a double minor in Linguistics and African Studies.

He has English Language, Communication Skills, Linguistics and Literature at various levels, including Bolgatanga Secondary School, Bagabaga Training College, Tamale, Tamale Polytechnic.

Before rising to become Rector and subsequently, Vice Chancellor of Tamale Technical University (February 2012 – February 2018), he served as Dean, School of Business & Management Studies, June 10, 2002 to August 31, 2004, Vice Principal, from September 2002 to August 31, 2004, and Examinations Officer from 2009 to February 2012.

Prof. Salifu Asuro, has taught part-time courses, and supervised student dissertations, including Doctoral theses in Ghanaian Universities, including the University of Education, Winneba, the University of Ghana, Legon, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, and the University for Development Studies. Prof. Salifu Asuro has taught at every level of education in Ghana, and has mentored thousands of pupils/students.

He is a member of the American Folklore Society, and the Ghana Studies Association. Additionally, he has served on the more than a dozen National and International boards.

Prof. Salifu Asuro is a sportsman, who plays hockey, and scrabble. As an executive member of the Ghana Hockey Association, he led Ghana to the African Club Championship Competition (2011) in Lusaka, Zambia. Sports shaped his temperament, widened his horizons and knowledge of faraway places, and college education gave him his retinue of friends, and his socialization.

Abdulai is one of six siblings, has two wives and six children. His late parents have been his role models. Prof. Salifu Asuro loves to work, and seeks to build bridges all the time.

Having served in the public arena for more than three decades, it is my desire to bring my experience to the private realm, and train our youth in marketable skills; to complement what our public institutions have. My desire is to see Madina Institute of Science and Technology grow into a First Class Institute, and a first choice for Technical Vocational Education.
